PREVIEW: WWE’s Cyber-Sunday 2006
WWE’s So-Called “The Fans Vote” PPV, Cyber Sunday is this Sunday. Now, perhaps I’m a bitter old fan here, but well…okay, I got nothing to follow up on that.
So, here is what my opinions of these matches are:
Umaga vs. EITHER Chris Benoit, Kane, or The Sandman
RJ is voting for: Chris Benoit
Who will likely win the vote: Kane
Kane is likely going to win this one because Kane and Umaga already have a buildup for a feud and the last time they collided, Kane got the short end of the stick. Personally, Chris Benoit is the perfect choice for this one. Chris Benoit is the one wrestler who can pretty much drag a good match out of anybody. Since Umaga, who for whatever unexplainable reason, actually got over with the tired Wild Somoan gimmick, could use an awesome brawl to help build him up more. However, I will call this right now…The Sandman has NO CHANCE IN HELL of getting voted on this one.
Mickie James vs. Lita
Fans Vote For One of the Following Match Stips:
No DQ, Submission Match, or Diva Lumberjack Match
RJ is voting for: No DQ
What will likely get voted: Diva Lumberjack Match
Mickie James is an excellent wrestler. Lita is a passable wrestler. If Lita was say Trish Stratus or Victoria, then I would vote Submission Match. However, I know these two girls could have one awesome No DQ match. However, T & A always wins so get prepared for ass grabbing action in a Diva Lumberjack match.
The Spirit Squad vs. Ric Flair & EITHER Dusty Rhodes, Roddy Piper, & Sgt. Slaughter
RJ is Voting For: Dusty Rhodes
Who will likely get the vote: Either Dusty Rhodes or Roddy Piper
I think we can all count The Sarge out on this one. Seriously, give it a rest guys! Its going to be hard selecting the other two. Roddy Piper is a huge legend and Dusty Rhodes is a legend in his own mind (”Big as Hulk Hogan”…MY ASS!). However, older fans will remember the legendary feuds between Flair & Rhodes and would like to see how that dream team-up would work. As for Piper, he’s always fun.
Jeff Hardy vs. EITHER Carlito, Shelton Benjamin, or Johnny Nitro
RJ is Voting For: Shelton Benjamin
Who will likely get the vote: Carlito
Shelton Benjamin is an awesome wrestler who time in and time out puts me in awe. All I have to point to is Money in the Bank for Wrestlemania 21 to see what the fuck I am talking about. Johnny Nitro has an exciting entrance and that’s about it. Carlito is another solid performer. This would be easier to predict if the champion was a heel and the choices were all faces.
D-Generation X vs. Edge & Orton
Choose the Special Ref: Eric Bischoff, Johnathan Coachman, or Vince McMahon
RJ is voting for: Eric Bischoff
Who will likely get the vote: Eric Bischoff
I think the fans are pretty much sick of Vince McMahon, and this will be the vote that hopefully points that out (provided its not rigged, which I understand that it isn’t). Jonathan Coachman is fresh and may be the runner-up in the votes, but I think after that nWo comment, I think the marks would like to see some sweet chin music action on Bischoff.
But seriously, this is lame. Here’s an idea, let the fans vote between three people they can’t stand. What a joke!
John Cena vs. King Booka vs. Big Show
Vote Which Championship is on the Line
RJ is voting for: WWE Championship (John Cena)
What will likely get voted: WWE Championship (John Cena)
I am going to say this right now…YOU ARE VOTING FOR WHO IS GOING TO WIN. This is a great teaser of unifying some of the belts, but that’s going to happen at a Wrestlemania, NOT a Cyber-Sunday. So, I repeat, you are voting for who is going to win. John Cena has just enough marks and “smarts” who hate him so much that they will hope they will change titles. Ain’t happening, you just picked John Cena as your main event winner.
In conclusion, what did the fans vote on? Not much. The Intercontinental Title might change hands, but that’s about it. Expect the Spirit Squad to hold on to the titles some more as they are not going to drop it to part-timers (and if so, for only one night). Should be a fun PPV, but I’m going to be in Cali. If anyone catches it, let me know how it goes!
